The Story Behind the Round Rock Ghost Tour
When I came up with the idea for Round Rock Ghost Tours, it was like a firecracker went off in my head. In February 2006, I was sitting in Saradora’s Coffee House, listening to Sarah Roberts tell a fascinating ghost story, and realized that there were many people in Round Rock who had no idea of the history of the place. Meanwhile, merchants were struggling to bring customers downtown in the wake of all the huge, brand-name shopping centers populating the rest of the city. I knew there was a way to bring these two interests together.
Right then and there, I decided to combine my lifelong love of creepiness, my penchant for storytelling, my ability to promote just about anything, and the resources of my mom, Cathy Haney, who had just retired from 40 years as a history teacher.
I hit the books and started roaming Main Street, looking for stories – and there were plenty. I called upon my dear husband, Dayne Choate, a comedian I met while doing improvisational comedy in Austin, who was game as long as he got to wear some type of costume. (He doesn’t. But he’s still in it!)
Round Rock Ghost Tours was born. The mission? Give new Round Rockers a fun way to learn about the history of their town, and help others discover the great shops, restaurants and charm of historic downtown Round Rock. We hope you enjoy the tour as much as we have enjoyed bringing it to you!
